Llaut Tucis

Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Miquel, owner and captain of the Llaut Tucis, a traditional Mallorcan boat with centuries of history. This type of vessel, emblematic of Mallorca’s coastline, has been adapted by Miquel to offer private charters and unique excursions, allowing passengers to enjoy the beauty of the Mediterranean in an authentic way. In this interview, Miquel shares his story, the story of the Llaut Tucis, and how he combines tradition and modernity to create unforgettable experiences at sea.

Could you briefly introduce yourself and tell us how your passion for the sea and the llaut began?

My name is Miguel, I was born and raised in Mallorca, and I’m passionate about the sea. Swimming, diving, fishing, sailing… Mallorca has been the perfect place to grow up. I grew up in Cala Sanau and later moved to Portopetro, which is a small fishing village.

When I had the opportunity to buy the Tucis, I really wanted to restore the boat to its original beauty! Especially because it’s a traditional boat of the Balearic Islands.

Since 2019, I’ve been running Llaut Tucis Charters in Portopetro to share the beautiful coast that Mallorca offers. I really enjoy showing tourists and locals the surroundings and taking them to the picturesque coves and waters. Especially departing from Portopetro, you’ll find one beautiful cove after another. And what better way to experience this than from a traditional llaut!

The llaut is a very special boat. What attracts you most about this type of vessel compared to modern boats?

The sailing (because of its great stability) and the peace it offers as a boat.

Could you share with us a memorable story you’ve experienced aboard your llaut?

What a tough question, as there are many memorable moments. But in every situation, the most memorable for me is seeing the happy faces of the people I’ve taken to sail, fish, and discover the best spots in southeast Mallorca.

The construction of llauts remains a highly valued craft in Mallorca. How important do you think it is to keep this tradition alive in an increasingly modernized world?

Very important! Simply because it’s a heritage of the islands, and they offer great beauty when seen sailing or anchored.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about acquiring or restoring a llaut?

You need to have a lot of love and time to maintain the llaut in its best condition. Because this beautiful type of vessel deserves such care to preserve its natural beauty.
